Commodore 1541 ALPS drive door latch

This replacement drive door latch is printed to order in heat- and UV-resistant ASA. It is intended to replace the plastic latch of the spring-loaded ALPS door, which, once broken, stops the door staying closed.

What you get

• One replacement drive door latch in heat- and UV-resistant ASA.
• Latch only: the drive, and the steel rod and spring it is used with, are not included.
• Hardware details are being confirmed – see FITTING below.

Intended for

The design is based on a latch made for the Commodore 1541 floppy disk drive with the ALPS mechanism, which has the push-down front door. We have not yet confirmed the fit on each model.

It is not intended for 1541 drives with the Newtronics mechanism and lever-type door. It has not been stated whether the design has been tested on a drive.

Check the fit

Check which mechanism your 1541 has before ordering. If you are unsure, contact us with clear photos of the front of the drive and the door mechanism, so we can help identify what you need.

Fitting

The designer's instructions use a steel rod and a spring with the latch; neither is included. Please contact us before ordering if you need to know exactly which rod and spring are required.

The instructions also describe filing the slide tabs and greasing the latch during fitting.

Material & finish

Printed to order in our workshop in Great Dunmow, Essex. Heat- and UV-resistant ASA is used for the latch, in black. Fine layer lines are a normal part of the 3D-printed finish.
